Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school in Las Vegas, Nevada. The majority of our population are English Language Learners and all of them receive free breakfast and lunch!
My amazing students are smart, sweet, curious and love to play!
We do so many interactive, hands-on activities. I make every effort to cover our rigorous Early Childhood standards through music, art, exploration and play! New materials would give my students even more wonderful opportunities to learn, play and grow!
My Project
Hands on learning through play is so important in early childhood!
One of my heroes, Mr. Rogers said, "Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning!"
I am ordering materials to help my students play and learn! I would like several new types of building materials including magnetic blocks and bristle blocks. We will incorporate these materials into our "Choice Time" in the classroom! While learning with these materials, students will use their creativity and learn basic engineering skills.
I am also asking for some fun counters! We play many counting and math games in our class. It is so fun to have a variety of new and fun things to count and sort! My goal is that these materials will help my students gain a better understanding of numbers and number sense.
Finally, I am also asking for some alphabet puppets that will help reinforce the letters and sounds as we learn them! As I introduce each letter, we will meet our special puppet friend who will help us remember what sound each letter makes. This will help them as they learn to read and sound out new words!
