Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our classroom, there is a lot of individualized and small group learning. We have a very diverse population that includes a high percentage of English Language Learners (students who speak another language other than English). I teach 5th grade in a highly diverse urban community with a high percentage of low-income families. Our school’s demographics include 90% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, 60% are English Language Learners, and 80% of them are Hispanic. Many of our students lack enrichment experiences such as visiting unique places. Donations from parents are few due to limited resources at home. I wouldn’t change a thing about where I teach because we have a great school community. We try to give our students experiences that they wouldn’t normally have. Your support would open the doors to new experiences for our students. Thank you!
My Project
I am asking for earbuds for my students to use whenever they are working on the computer or using Playway books. I find that students work better and listen closer when they have earbuds and don't get distracted by everything around them whether it be in our classroom, at home, or at daycare when they are suppose to be learning.
Students often find it difficult to concentrate on their task when working on the computer, because they hear everyone else and what they are doing.
In order to listen to Playway books, they need headphones as well.
I will tell the students that they can keep them at the end of the year if they are still working.
