Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach seventh grade science in a rural school. Our community is very diverse with many cultures represented. Over 80% of our children qualify and receive free or reduced-price lunch, which means many of our children live in poverty.

We are also experiencing a growing number of families that are homeless.

Even though our children come from many disadvantaged homes, they come to school happy and so excited to learn. They know that they will leave with new knowledge every day.

My Project

We have been in school for over 5 months and we are running low on essential items for our classroom. Earbuds are such an essential part of our day when students are needing to listen to a lesson on the computer or have a test read to them, and we don't have any earbuds available.

Not only earbuds are essential but colored pencils that are used by students to illustrate their interactive notebooks.

When my students can make their notebooks come alive with color they are more likely to remember the content.

Last but not least we are still in need of disposable face masks. We literally go through them like water.
