Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? A review of student grades and school-wide data indicate that students with struggling in high school will have a desire to give up and drop out.
The students in my classroom are students with challenges in testing and performing clinical skills.
Many of them have chosen our school of vocation to obtain a certification to be employed in the medical industry. My classes serve students with a range of learning disabilities, emotional frustration, and poor test takers. The typical student in my class has a challenge understanding the critical thinking aspect in the medical field. We are a Title I school meaning the majority of the students are on free or reduced lunch. A majority of the students work to support or aid in the family structure. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent in our student population.
My department budget is $451 for over 100 students. My classrooms are dilapidated, textbooks are outdated and technology is being updated to the core classes. Vocational teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction without the requisite tools to teach the students.
My Project
The supplies that I am requesting are needed to teach the nursing students about medication administration. There is nothing more than being able to visualize the medication cards being distributed in long term care facilities. The students will be place in a real life scenario on assessing the medications that are being given.
The multi dose packs allow them to see more than one drug at a time.
This will prepare the students to be profiecent in medications pass.
The call lights are needed for my hospital beds to simulate and in patient safety during a skill. I currently have three older beds with jump ropes as patient call lights. It’s hard for the students to simulate a call light when they see a jump rope. Please we need your assistance to bring reality in a classroom striving to be a small hospital.
