Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the reason I love what I do as much as I do. My students are inquisitive, ambitious, and creative. Each student is unique in their own way. My students bring so many different cultural aspects in the classroom which serves as a learning experience for everyone. Despite all of their unique differences, they all have one thing in common; they are eager to learn!
Our school is a Title 1 school where 100% of students receive free or reduced lunch.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Although they may be at a disadvantage socioeconomically, when they walk in my classroom I want them all to be able to receive the best educational experiences. It is my goal to provide them with experiences, lessons, and lifelong skills that they will be able to take with them and apply outside the classroom. Most importantly, I want my students learning to be meaningful and useful.
My Project
In our classroom, we focus much of our time on literacy. Students are grouped based on their reading level. Scores in my classroom range from above grade level to far below grade level. With that being said it is important to provide the best research based components as well as interventions to literacy centers that will improve student literacy skills as well as reading levels.
The headphones will serve many purposes in my classroom.
The students will be able to use them at the listening station, Ipad station and computer station during literacy workshop.
Listening is an important component to literacy. The headphone will allow the students to be able to listen to different stories based on their reading level. Multiple headphones will be able to plug into the port so that each student will be able to listen using their own headphones and students in other literacy stations will not be distracted. After listening, each student will be responsible for completing a comprehension based text depended questions to make sure the station is serving its purpose and to also integrate writing.
The classroom headphones are a necessity for my classroom in order to promote literacy and as a way for students to understand that there are many components to literacy that should be mastered. The overall goal will be to improve student reading levels.
