Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Pre-K students represent diverse backgrounds, experiences, risk factors, and reflect a wide range of special needs. They are tiny learners ages four and five, that love reading, investigating, exploring, creating and most of all learning!
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding artists, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, mathematicians, teachers... They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful careers!
My Project
All of my Pre-K students love listening to sing along books that help broaden their understanding of the world they live in. They are the most engaged during story time when they are able to join in the fun of reading; and familiar sing along books allow them to do just that!
Numerous studies have shown that students with access to a listening library and a literacy rich environment develop 1) a greater interest in reading, 2) improved literacy skills and comprehension and 3) increased vocabulary levels.
It's my hope to incorporate familiar sing along books to my classroom listening library to encourage students to sing and read aloud independently each day.
Your donation will also allow my students to gain exposure to fun sing along books as well as hands on literacy and phonemic awareness learning activities that will be utilized in our classroom learning centers. The sing along books would be introduced to the children during our story time and later placed in the listening center for students to listen to while reading along with the accompanying picture book. The plastic book bags will be used to protect and store the books and cd's in our library.
The children will play with the Touch and Match Guessing Game in our ABC center during teacher led small group play or during free play. The Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles will bring language practice to the water table. Children will have the opportunity to select a floating bubble from the water, peek inside to see an upper and a lowercase letter then flip the bubble over to see an image representing the matching beginning sound. When children play these games they will develop skills in identifying uppercase and lowercase letters, alphabet knowledge, letter-sound correspondence and identifying beginning letter sounds.
