My students need video equipment to start a school news show for the morning announcements. We are requesting two video cameras, a stand for stationary shots, and a memory card.

Have you ever been on TV? The excitement of seeing yourself builds confidence. News is how we get all our information, and the students here would like to bring it to their peers first hand. I believe broadcasting helps students to think outside themselves and to learn to communicate with others.
My school is an inner city Title I school.
We are part of the Atlanta Public School System in Atlanta, Georgia. We have a student population of 260 serving grades K-5. Our population is 99% African-American and 1% other; the majority of our students come from single-parent homes. 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students are neighborhood children with very little parental support. Most of these children do not know how to use any other technology other than what we have here at school. Research has shown that students who are engaged in their learning through active participation and opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers tend to be more motivated to learn (Bandura,1977; Vygotsky, 1978). Collaborative Classroom research "indicates [that] successful learning also involves an interaction of the learner, the materials, the teacher, and the context" (NCREL, Tinzmann, Jones, Fennimore, Bakker, Fine, and Pierce, 1990).
We are requesting two video cameras, a stand for stationary shots, and a memory card to save footage. Students will be able to interview classmates and cover special events in the school to show during a morning webcast. Students will enhance communication and writing skills while building personal confidence within them. They will also be able to keep their peers up to date on current events.
This project is important to me because I teach technology to the students on a daily basis and working with children we never know if we are planting seeds for future careers in our students.
My job is to expose them to all types of technology in order to be competitive in todayâÂÂs world. I want to show them all the hard work that is put into making the news occur.
