The students I teach (and learn from) daily are comprised of various backgrounds. We have 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at our school, and we service a population of approximately one third economically disadvantaged students in Bossier City, LA. We also are a military community, so many of our students face familial challenges we could not imagine. We try to give our students every opportunity to learn and grow, but being located in a small town in Louisiana, funding for extra school projects/materials can be somewhat limited.
I am blessed by these bright, hardworking young individuals each day.
They are focused on being successful in a technology-driven world, where computers are the new (and necessary) normal. I want my students to have every opportunity to be successful in school and in life, so equipping them with the right tools to stimulate their learning is key. I have faith in my students, and I know with the right resources, they can achieve anything!
My Project
Technology in the classroom is essential. As a teacher, I know it is important to provide hands-on, interactive lessons each day to keep students engaged. I like to achieve this through the implementation of online tools in the classroom such as Nearpod and Google Classroom, but these interactive sites require students to have access to a computer.
Without enough Chromebooks, it is difficult to utilize these online platforms to aide students' learning in the classroom.
I know how excited my students are to use Chromebooks in class, whether it is as a whole group, small group, or individually. Additional Chromebooks in the classroom would give my students more chances to participate. I want them to have every opportunity to use technology in order to enhance academics!
