Help me give my students an iPad to access a counselor where they can see and talk anywhere on campus. The tablet can be easily sanitized according to CDC protocol.

“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it's less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you've lost, or you can accept that and try to put together something that's good.”
― Elizabeth Edwards
My students are resilient, culturally mixed, energetic, skillful, highly motivated, young boys and girls from greater New Orleans. They come from Central America, Mexico, and Puerto Rico and escaped harsh conditions with few resources. Some of them reside with extended family because their parent is unable to care for them or are living in temporary housing due to being homeless. Most students have or will experience some type of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or childhood trauma.
Not handling emotions and feelings properly can lead to students shutting down, not doing work, fighting, and having disagreements. It can also lead to teacher frustration. Our students are eager to learn, and strengthening their resilience will help them excel. Teaching students how to properly handle conflicts and emotions will enhance their learning and keep them in the classroom for longer periods of time. With your help, we can obtain equipment needed to do just that.
Having timely access to school counseling will allow students to process emotions and feelings related to any trauma they be experiencing and learn appropriate coping strategies so they can return to classroom learning. Anxiety levels are even higher due to COVID-19 protocols requiring social distancing, limited movement in the building, masks, lunch in class, frequent hand washing, and limited or no recess.
In-person counseling may be very limited due to COVD-19 restrictions.
The tablet will allow students to access a counselor where they can see and talk to each other anywhere on campus. The tablet can be easily sanitized according to CDC protocol and then utilized by other students. This will increase the number of students able to access the school counselor and increase more time in the classroom.
Resilient students can navigate stressful situations. When students have the skills and the confidence to confront and work through their problems, they learn that they have what it takes to confront difficult issues.
