Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, I work in a Title I school and am in the computer lab. I teach all of the students in our school the basic computer skills. Each week they enter my classroom and many of them have the chance to be exposed to how a computer works and the different programs they can use on them. Students learn typing skills, coding, how to use Google Drive and other programs that help them to improve their Reading and Math Skills.
Each time students enter my classroom they are using programs that will help them to build skills for future jobs.
Students have the opportunity to grow and eventually pass on what they have learned to parents that may not speak English or have computer skills. Students enjoy coming to my room as it is not always games but they have fun while learning new skills.
I also work with students in first, second and fourth grade in small groups to improve their reading skills. I do this with students that are oftentimes two to three grade levels below where they should be in their reading skills. These students benefit from the small group atmosphere.
My Project
Students will use the supplies in this project to help them further understand how what they have learned relates to what they may do in a future job. I have found that when students have hands-on experience with different things they often times are better able to retain information.
These students love to try new things and this equipment will allow them the chance to try different solutions.
The headphones will allow students to listen to videos to help clarify any confusion they may have while the books will allow them to picture how the information can be used in a job. Each time students learn something new they want to try it using their hands and this would allow them the opportunity to do so.
When working on STEM activities students learn from a variety of methods and adding further experiments will allow them to gain new knowledge.
