My students need new and exciting books to continue learning their first language, Spanish, while continue to learn English. They need more books to boost their curiosity, and develop both languages.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bilingual kindergarten teacher in an urban city school. The students in school come from low-income families and most of them receive free lunch. The school also welcome refugee families that contribute with their knowledge and culture. An interesting fact in my school is that over 52% of students are female.
My student's curiosity is bigger than the books available in the classroom.
My bilingual students embrace their first language Spanish while continue growing in English. They need more books to keep up with their curiosity and develop both languages.
My students are always eager to read different literacy genres and contribute with their knowledge and culture at the same time that they learn different subjects in the classroom. It is a challenge to provide books to the students because their curiosity demands are bigger than the books available in the classroom. Especially, when it is time to read during guided reading, independent and share reading, and inquiry projects.
My Project
My students are engaged learners. I am requesting Spanish Emergent Readers book sets that the students will be used during their guided reading to learn reading strategies. After guided reading, the students will use the books for independent and partner reading to strengthen the acquired reading skills during guided reading.
Learning reading skills will not stop once students finish guided reading.
They will use the books to become independent readers and book lovers.
The students will use the books to unite study and inquiry projects. It will encourage the students to increase their curiosity while supporting their reading and comprehension skills.
