Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have eight special needs students with autism in a self-contained classroom. I am constantly working with my students to improve their reading comprehension. Combining their reading curriculum with technology is essential in preparing them for a world that is becoming more and more technological.
My students are students with special needs.
I have eight students with autism in a self-contained classroom. My students have varying academic levels and for the most part are reading below grade level. Having access to a more engaging tool, such as a computer, will encourage to improve their reading abilities and prepare them for the future. They are very eager to learn and capable of improving their social and functional skills to increase their chance for employment in the future. Our school is a Occupational Training center in the Bronx dedicated to improving the skills of young adults with disabilities.
My Project
Currently my students are participating in a Reading Comprehension Curriculum that requires them to use technology. The Chromebooks requested will allow the students to have more access to and intensify their participation in this curriculum while not relying on the scarce and unreliable resources provided by the school. These Chromebooks would also allow students to work on their writing skills. Students will work on word processing, on-line research, presentations, and much more with these Chromebooks. The students will also have access to Google Apps for Education, the free suite of on-line applications for word processing, spreadsheet work and presentations. Chromebooks are almost purpose-built for those programs.
Technology is an essential part of the world we live in today.
Providing access to as many forms of technology will help students progress and succeed in the 21st century. These Chromebooks will provide an in-class computer lab allowing for more engaging instruction, a more relevant application in this current technological world, on a more functional form factor at an affordable price. Combining the education of my students with technology will benefit them in preparing them for the future.
