As we all know, public schools are not well funded and it effects our students and what we teach in schools. My students are just beginning to love reading and books and are so excited to explore literacy! I have very few books in my new classroom and need more to keep my kids engaged!
My students are a wonderful bunch of 19 excited Kindergarteners!
We all live in Vermont and are exploring the world around us each and every day. They attend a public school in a lower/middle class neighborhood and are chomping at the bit for books, books books! They know what they love to read and I want to be able to provide it for them. They are so curious and smart and are learning so fast.
My Project
My students will be so excited to see these titles on our shelves. They love all the Mo Willems books and especially Piggy and Elephant. They are working on reading books right now by looking at the pictures and these titles are perfect for that. They need books that are vivid in illustration and have great story lines and these books do! They will also begin to read independently around November and need leveled text so they can read at their "just right" level and master skills and strategies of early readers. This will prepare them for all of their years in school and their lives ahead as eager and interested readers. The most important thing for young learners is to be excited and inspired about reading and these books will let them do that!
As outlined above, my kids love reading and need to continue to love it.
If they become bored with few reading titles, they will lose interest and it will be detrimental to a lifelong love of literature. Help me get the tools that we need to be inspired readers!
