My third graders are ravenous readers who try to spend at least an hour each day independently reading books at home and in school. We need more fiction books to feed our hungry appetites!
These students are hardworking, imaginative, and motivated to learn and excel.
Many are English language learners whose families have recently moved to the United States. They take school very seriously and love to impress adults with how smart they are!
My Project
Access to a wide variety of level-appropriate texts is a key component in building students' comprehension and engagement in becoming lifelong readers. My students will fall in love with great children's book characters like Alvin Ho, Ellray Jakes, and the Lunch Lady, and then get hooked on their stories, gobbling up book after book.
The books requested meet the ability levels of almost all students in my classroom and leave room to grow as they build their abilities as readers. Thinking deeply about fiction texts is a major requirement in standardized testing, so lots of experience with this genre is critical.
Your support will help build a classroom library that supports the interests and abilities of all my students.
These new books will help develop a love of reading as well as the skills my students need to tackle standardized tests.
