My students need a listening center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My student are mostly English Language Learners. Our school houses a divers ethnic population. The challenges that I face working with these students are having the ability to give them choices that incorporate different modalities, or multiple intelligences.
As an educator in a TITLE 1 school I am faced with challenges of providing supplies, uniforms and snacks for my students.
Indeed I do so with a spirit of joy. Majority of my students do not have adults that spend time reading with them at home. Most of my students rely on the support and guidance we provide here for them. They come to school with so much eagerness to learn, and as an educator I MUST take advantage of that opportunity. Most of my evenings are spent creating home-made activities for them to work with in the classroom. I notice my students embrace these activities with such enthusiasm. Now I can't imagine if they had something new, fresh and interactive that could support not only language abilities but that touches their multiple intellengce and keeps them interested and engaged.
Have you ever picked a book that you wish you knew how to read? The frustration you feel when you cannot independently read a book and have to rely on others to get through the process, well that's how most children in my classroom feel. Yes, I read to them daily, but for a change of pace I know my students would also enjoy going off into a nice comfy nook set up just for them with a lamp, colorful books, shiny new cushioned headphones, and all you hear is laughter and see the pure enjoyment on their face. Supporting my project will give my students the opportunity to follow along with the reader, be engaged as a reader, while strengthening their skills into becoming more independent readers. Now wouldn't you like to be a part of that?
I am anticipating that obtaining a listening center will become a reality soon.
Your assistance in purchasing a listening center will be highly appreciated and be valued immensely. Can you imagine those smiles that are going to be on their faces once they see a brand new place in their room?
