As a child, do you remember finding that one book that was just right for you and reading it in a cozy spot that let you "get lost" in it? Walt Disney once said, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island." Please help us unlock the treasures that await us!
My students are fourth graders who attend an inner city school in Pennsylvania.
Our district is high-poverty. We have a very diverse population with a wide range of reading ability levels and interests. My students are eager to get their hands on books that are suited to both their ability and interest.
My Project
I have worked hard to partner up with local community representatives to get high quality books of all levels and interests for my students to be able to read both at home and at school. However, these books need to be organized in a meaningful way so that the students can select the books that are "just right" for them. The organizing bins we are requesting will help me to get our books in their eager little hands and minds. Also, the bean bag chairs will help even the most reluctant, struggling reader find that comfortable spot where reading will come alive for them.
Our school district has needed to cut our library services down drastically.
My students will only be able to visit the school library once or twice a month. It is my hope that creating an organized, comfortable classroom library will bring more books into my students' hands and motivate them to read for pleasure as a lifelong activity.
