I have 21 bright and enthusiastic second grade students in my homeroom, with a wide variety of reading abilities, in a rural school situated in the heart of Appalachia. In addition, 13 students from other second grade classrooms receive reading instruction in my room. The books I am requesting will be used during their guided reading times. Currently, I have half of the series, but my students would love to be able to read the entire series.
My students are so engaged when we are reading from this series-Some of them squealed in delight when they read how the characters met each other.
Students are eager to receive the rest of the books in the Henry and Mudge series. The author of the series, Cynthia Rylant, grew up in the mountains of West Virginia.
My Project
Students are eager to receive books in the Henry and Mudge series. This project is for sets of guided reading books. The students love the characters and settings in the books we've read so far. They are motivated to try their best, so they can move on to the next title in the series. These books and this author's background TRULY motivate even the most reluctant reader.
My students are amazed that a young girl with an Appalachian background similar to theirs is now a successful author.
