Help me give my students the opportunity to begin each morning with a "soft start" choice. This allows them to work together, have some fun, and relax before our day begins.
Our classroom is a place of discovery, challenge, collaboration, and growing; my students know that failure with a growth mindset is acceptable to help us grow into better learners in our ever-changing society. Students spend their days building on the foundational skills they will need for years to come while learning how to interact with others in various settings. My students take pride in their learning and growing and they are constantly supporting others around them in everyone's educational journey.
My Project
I believe each morning sets the tone for each day. Students who enter our classroom come from all walks of life. Some had great mornings; some had tough mornings; some had mornings where they just didn't want to get up; some come to school excited to learn.
I never know the type of morning each child had at home, but what I do know is that I am in control of the type of day that we have together.
I want my students to come to school excited to be there, but I also know that my students need a "softer start" to their day. The first 20 minutes of our day are spent unpacking, listening to announcements, and getting ready to learn. My goal is to give my 25 students the choice of softer starts where they can come in, unpack, and make a soft choice before our day gets started. The soft starts will not allow for technology because we use it so much within our learning. It will allow for peer talk, collaboration, and face to face interaction where students can continue to build relationships.
