Ms. Bakshi from Columbia SC is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a 3D printer so they have an opportunity to see math in action. My students need to test theories, and think more creatively in order to understand math.

Our school is blessed to have an opportunity to help and educate high school kids from low income families. My students are such great learners that always try their best. They are hands-on learners which is why a 3D printer would be so beneficial to them and would be such a big asset to our math department. I want to give my students the opportunity to learn the wonderful subject of math hands-on!
I plan to use the 3D printer I have requested to enable mathematical thinking in every aspect. In many math classes, it is hard to visualize the process, therefore this 3D printer will be very beneficial to everything math has to offer in our high school math department.
As three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is fast becoming more affordable and accessible, I really want to try this technology in our Math Department to actively engage students in core concepts relating to objects in R3.
This technology will help students interact with 3D models and learn concepts relating to surfaces, solids, and multivariable functions. I am aware of the fact that in 3D printing, objects are built from the bottom up, cross section by cross section, the same way you’re supposed to envision the pieces when you calculate volumes by slicing in Calculus. It will definitely give my students an insight of how math works in real life.
