My students need 2 Kindle Fires so they can download a variety of books of various genres that can be read to them.
Not being able to put down a book is a present that not all of my students have had the chance to open.
My students have many strengths in many areas unfortunately reading is not one of them.
For most, their learning disability interferes with their ability to read books at their grade and age level. For the past three years they have been involved in a READ-180 program that is designed to improve their reading and while this program has helped move them slightly they have become discouraged because they are still reading the same books year after year because they have not made enough growth.
I am requesting two Kindle Fires because we will be able to download a variety of audio books at many different levels that they will be able to listen to. This will open up their world and they will see that reading is an enjoyable task instead of one that should be done just because a teacher said.
Overall, I want to be able to give my students the gift of knowing that reading isn't something they should shy away from just because they aren't strong readers.
I want them to be able to see that there are other alternatives out there for them and that they too can read the books that their peers are reading and they can be part of the conversations their peers are having about those books.
