Despite living in low-income homes, our students are dedicated to their education. Despite challenges faced in the classroom, our students are hard working. Despite living in a rural community, our students are exceptional, and because of all of these factors, our students are changing our school.
In just five years our students have worked to move our school from being ranked 200th of 295 South Carolina middle schools to being ranked 53rd.
Our students love to read, create, and challenge themselves. With a 66% free and reduced-price lunch rate it is clear that more than half of our students come from low-income homes; however, our students work hard to overcome adversity and perform in a school where they feel safe and valued. Every day I hear students talking about what they're learning in class and how excited they are to be a part of our school. Our students have embraced the idea that they are making a difference in their own lives and are eager to find new opportunities to learn, create, and solve challenging problems.
The 2019-2020 will be the first year our school has 1:1 Chromebooks. Our students are so excited but we could use a few extra tools that will enhance this great experience.
My students need a portable scanner to use with their Chromebooks.
This technology tool will help all students with a variety of assignments and group projects throughout the school year. We are specifically wanting to create electronic portfolios of their work. As a teacher I like to include a variety of assignments in my curriculum. I believe that students should be able to use technoloy but also have the opportunity to use their creativity through art, music, and drama.
Portable scanners will enable students to save any hand-written assignments, artwork, or notes in to Google Drive. Organization is a key skill that is lacking for middle schoolers! An E-Portfolio is a long term project this year. This collection of work will be a source of pride and accomplishment for my students. A scanner will also be a big help for students with disabilities that have accommodations for writing.
Most students struggle with the funds for basic school supplies. Please help my students with the technology tools needed for an engaging classroom experience!
