Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st Grade Self-contained Bilingual students. My students are all English Language Learners, many who are new to the country and do not speak English. The majority come from low-income families. We are a Title 1 School where most students receive free or reduced lunch. My students always bring a diverse set of needs. Some have little to no exposure to school while others have only been in school for a short period of time.
My Project
This summer I was able to experience our first Remote Learning Summer Program experience in our district. Based on this experience, I was able to realize the challenges and obstacles many of our students face while learning from home. I realized how noise-blocking headphones can be useful and the huge difference they can make. It will help them focus a little better, no matter where they're located or who they are with. I also realized how difficult it may be to see through a camera, so dry erase boards and markers can make a huge difference. Flash cards are always useful for building vocabulary. The rest are writing materials that they will need to work independently.
