Help me give my students and every classroom in our school access to books by Eva Chen that empower women and inspire their young minds to believe anyone can accomplish anything.
Our early childhood school is now in its twelfth year serving the community. In our pre-k class, that means over one hundred and eighty students have come and gone from this classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after school programs and summer camp.
Families send their precious children to our class everyday, for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.
Our families are working class parents who often work long hours to provide for their children.
Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in, and we hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love of learning.
I've been teaching at my first and current school for seven years. No matter who enters through that door, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.
My Project
E is for Eva, the amazing author of A is for Awesome! 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World. D is for Derek, the impeccable illustrator of 3 2 1 Awesome!: 20 Fearless Women Who Dared to Be Different.
I is for inspirational, the best word to describe the books created by Eva and Derek and the Impact it has made on our students.
A is for Awesome, in particular, has different meanings for the various students who have read it. The book is special and I hope to bring it to every class in our school as well as the followup book.
In my pre-K classroom, the book is readily available for students who wish to get lost in a book. The pre-K kid with the red glasses and the contagious smile has opened the book many times. Although she cannot read yet, the beautiful pictures are enough to keep her engaged on each page for a long period of time. When she is curious enough to know about the words on each page, she'll call her teacher over to read it. She takes in each sentence and matches the words with the illustrations. Her favorite part is when she gets to the XYZ part of the alphabet. She loves the fact that she is on her favorite book.
Another copy of the books is in Ms. Reilly's classroom where it is loved by several of her students. The wear and tear of the iconic book proves just how much the book is adored by Ms. Reilly's students. One boy is especially fond of all the women featured in the book and seeks out additional biographies to learn more about each. It has become so special to him that it has found a semi-permanent home in his book baggie.
