We need assistance paying for meals while attending the national Educators Rising conference. Some meals are included in the conference registration fee, but not all.
In June, I will travel to Boston with a group of AMAZING high school students to attend the national Educators Rising conference on the campus of Boston University. These students will get to experience college life early. We need help paying for the 12 meals not included in the registration fee.
As students enrolled in a two year program designed for future educators, my students have been involved in writing other proposals for DonorsChoose.org. They realize the impact these projects and donors can have on our classroom. They are excited to help secure materials or funding for outside experiences. This project is the largest they have been involved in writing, and they understand the significance. Having this project funded means less out of pocket expense for the families of Clay, Rebecca, Hanna, and Renae. Michael and Kaden are the seniors of our group. Anyone who's ever had a child graduate high school understands the financial burden that comes with senior year. As rising seniors, the young ladies and their families have that expense looming. These young people understand that having this project funded will mean a great deal to their families. Their goal is to keep the out of pocket expense as low as possible, so their families can focus on graduation/college expenses.
One of the realities of being an educator is there is never enough funding to meet all of students' needs. As future teachers, my students understand that they will often have to supply materials and money to meet the needs of their own students. Being able to locate and secure funding opportunities from outside resources is a skill they must have. Helping write this request will help prepare them for their careers as educators. Aside from the college experience provided at the conference, students will have opportunities to network with students and educators from around the country. They will participate in professional development workshops and competitions designed to improve their teaching skills. Some of the competitions are team events. These events will require students to listen to the ideas of others and work towards a common goal. My students do so much service work in our community and others. I have no doubt they are appreciative of any and all support they receive.
In Their Own Words
We are hoping to have some of our meals funded through this project. Traveling to nationals is expensive. Even though we have held fundraisers, and will continue to do so, we still have a lot of expense that falls on our parents. There are no funds available from our school to help offset the cost. We raise the money ourselves or pay outright. DonorsChoose.org has been so helpful by allowing us to post projects, and donors have been so generous. We hope to have one last "Boston" project funded.
I will be a leader in working to get our project funded by asking my fellow classmates and chapter members to donate. I will also share this project on social media, and ask my family and friends to do so. Our chapter will post fliers with information about our project around the school and in the community. Our local radio station has been good about posting and announcing our projects in the past, so we will be sure to contact them. Getting the word out will go along way in helping us fund.
This is important to me because I can use this example in my future classroom to teach my students to never give up. Teacher Academy and the student organization Educators Rising help prepare students to become the teachers of tomorrow. We live in a rural area of a state that falls at the bottom of most education related "lists." Participating in EdRising activities prepares us for our careers. The goal of both programs is to build strong teachers so that children have promising futures.
