Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th grade at a Title I school in South Florida. The majority of my students come from disadvantaged homes where English is their second language. Our families are strong despite the lack of opportunities and resources they possess.

Students at our school are hungry for opportunities, but need the resources to foster their interests and needs.

Many of our families support multiple children and cannot afford the extras that we take for granted. Our school acts as a hub at which families have access to resources beyond their personal reach.

My Project

I am requesting a hands-on science kit from Engineering is Elementary department at the Boston Museum of Science. This kit specifically addresses the properties of matter standards by having students engineer a bubble wand. Students test the wand with various materials and decide how to make the most successful bubble wand.

My students love to dig deep into their engineering minds with their classmates.

They thrive on problem-solving within real-world scenarios. This kit gives them the opportunity to explore concepts in an engaging way with their friends. These activities also support a variety of learning styles so that all students feel successful!
