Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our print rich education systems, my students struggle to find success in school. All my students are diagnosed with dyslexia, currently in the middle of their reading remediation program. Dispite the challenges that they face every day, they are a great bunch of kids that need a more visual way of being shown language and grammar skills. Some of theses students was not diagnosed with dyslexia until 5th grade or later. Because of that, they have struggled to pick up basic literary skills.
My Project
The books and boards in this project will go to directly teaching literary skills that my students are missing. Both items will go towards my goal of giving my students multiple ways to hear and visually see concepts that are often abstract that they need. Picture books are the best resource for this. The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom for both practice in both in the learning of spelling and in the handwriting component of the systematic structured literacy program. They need the large boards in order to give them room to use the larger muscles.
