My Students

During a typical day in my dyslexia intervention groups, we work in small groups on their ability to decode unknown long words. We work on their reading rate or fluency.

Many of my students have been in dyslexia intervention for several years.

It is my goal to get them decoding and reading at grade level, as quickly as possible. Many are very frustrated with their progress, and the fact that they are still in dyslexia intervention. Some have recently been identified, and I want to get them decoding and reading on grade-level as soon as possible as well.

My Project

At the secondary level, we use REWARDS by Voyager Sopris Learning, as our primary dyslexia intervention program. REWARDS now has tablet resources that we will be able to access using an iPad mini. I would also like to supplement the REWARDS program, by using several apps available on the iPad mini, that will help my students as well. These include, but are not limited to: Natural Reader, Learning Ally, Read2Go, Howsjay Pronunciation Dictionary, MELS Phonics Blending Sounds Lite, Phonics Genius, and other Innovative Mobile Apps. These apps help address the issues dyslexic students have with phonemic awareness and phonics, as well as the ability to hear passages read to them, and to hear the correct pronunciation of difficult words. We will also be able to use the iPad mini during Decoding Analysis Testing, as well.

Donations to this project will allow my students access to assistive technology, that will help me to close the gap these students have in their phonemic awareness and phonics, by giving them an interactive avenue to investigate, and learn in a new and innovative way.
