Have you ever spent a day sitting in a meeting or working at home? After a few hours, your limbs beg to be moved and straightened. Students spend the better part of their day in restrictive chairs. Unlike conventional school chairs, Hokki stools give students a healthy way to move while they work.
First graders have very active minds, and bodies.
The more they can move while learning, the more productive their learning is. We work hard in 1st grade. Our day is filled with actively learning new information, and practicing what we learn. As a teacher, I work very hard to work physical breaks into our day. Research has shown how very important movement is for maximized learning, health and well being for children.
My Project
First graders are full of energy. As a teacher, it is our job to harness that energy and make it productive. The Hokki stool is an incredible piece of furniture that supports teachers in their work to guide and focus energy. Hokki stools have a convex base, allowing for movement in all directions. This movement allows the body to move gently and engage leg and core muscles while still being seated. For students who are frequent fidgeters, the Hokki stool gives them a way to move while still having their brain engaged; it's a perfect tool for active learners. As a teacher, I use the bigger one while teaching. I love using it. My back never gets tired. My students love to sit on mine when it's not in use.
Children are naturally energetic and the furniture should not hinder their bodies.
Hokki stools support students' mental growth by accommodating their physicality. When my students are not limited by their surroundings, their minds will be able to accomplish so much more!
