Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Bright, determined, eager-to-learn and diverse... these are the students of my first-grade class. We are a public urban charter in Providence, RI, where most students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. My classroom is full of young learners brimming with energy. My students come to school everyday with smiles on their faces ready to learn. They are an incredible group of students.
I want my students to learn in an environment that is best for them.
Many of my students are very active and easily distracted. I make time for many "energizer" breaks throughout the day. However, my classroom needs seating options that will help us keep active and focused on all the wonderful learning going on throughout the day in the classroom.
My Project
For our students to be their best, they need to learn in environments that also foster physical and emotional development. Flexible seating options will provide these young learners with the chance to choose within their learning environment, while helping them stay more physically focused and alert.
Our urban population and public school budget need supplemental support to be able to create the kind of classroom environment in which diverse learners have access to the educational equipment and resources they need to excel.
Donating to our project, you will help increase academic achievement by helping to improve and increase student attention and focus. These three ball chairs will allow my students to actively move as they listen, engage, and explore their learning. We will use the chairs during guided reading and guided math times, allowing each learner to a richer experience, as we work in small-group settings. I believe that the rocking motion of the seats will help increase the focus of students by allowing them to redirect their energy.
Research supports the use of flexible seating. Perhaps you can too. Please donate to our classroom project to help our young learners have a rocking year!
