My Students
Students are excited to come to our school and enjoy many enriching activities throughout the year. Our principal, our staff, our parents, and our students work together to create a very supportive environment for learning. We are an inner city, Title I public school with high academic scores. Students have many role models of success, and it is a joy to see them grow into lifelong learners. The school is very successful in bringing students up to grade level and beyond.
I am excited to be a part of a dedicated, hardworking school that supports one another with kindness and encouragement.
Our students are helpful and are wonderful leaders at our school. They are inclusive of the special needs students at our school and do activities together. The students are a joy to work with and are very creative, which adds many dimensions to classroom learning. We are a growing school with low student turnover and an excellent student attendance record, which is so important to student success. I am so thankful to be a part of a school that is so supportive and successful with its students.
My Project
My students love to play drums rhythms as they sing! Receiving a variety of different drums to play would create added learning, excitement, and fun for my student musicians. The drums in the variety pack are a high pitch Djembe drum, a medium pitch Timbre drum, and a low pitch Tubano drum. Each drum sound would play different rhythm patterns and characterize separate parts of a piece and/or a character in the music. We would be able to add this variety of drum sounds to our music programs for each grade level throughout the school year with our dynamic drummers drumming!
Drumming teaches students non-verbal communication, how to listen to each other, to show respect for one another, to work together as a team, to learn self-discipline and to grow confidently as musicians.
These are important life skills to learn through our enriching experiences with the drums. Students study other drumming cultures around the world as they sing songs in different languages. Drumming is a wonderful rhythmic adventure for my musical students, which they all love to do!
