My students need density block in order to learn how to accurately calculate density of different objects.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach at an alternative school. My students are at risk. They want to learn but do not have the skills that they need to make it in a general education setting. Many of them struggle with just making it to school and need to learn how to be successful. Many of my students struggle at home, and school is a place where they can relax. Many of my students are also English language learners. They struggle with science vocabulary and need help in not only remembering what the words mean but with how to correctly read them.
My students need engaging activities that will make them excited to learn.
I believe through a strong science setting my students will be excited to not only come to school but to learn as well. When students are excited about the daily lessons, they will learn not only the curriculum but also what it means to be a student.
My students need density blocks to be able to understand how to calculate density. They have a basic understanding of density when we work with liquids but have a very hard time transferring the knowledge to solid objects. My students love hands-on labs where they can explore the world around them. Through the use of the blocks, they will be able to see the level at which they float and compare it to the number that they calculate.
Being able to use density blocks in the classroom would greatly increase the understanding of density with my students.
They will be able to easily compare the density of solids and liquid very easily based on what they experience in the lab setting.
