Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it was like to be a high school student? Take your experience and add to it a traumatic personal background, unwise choices, and poor friendships. Imagine what it would be like to have no support at home and no reason to do the right thing.

Our high school has created the Forensics Police and Fire Academy (FPFA) which is a four year UC approved course of study.

Many of the students in this program are at risk for failure based upon attendance, behavior, and academic issues that extend far beyond the boundaries of the imagination. It is my job to ensure that they don't drop out, but rather proceed to graduation. Our school, The Home of the Highlanders, is a four-year comprehensive public high school proudly serving the communities of La Habra, Whittier, Fullerton, Anaheim, and La Palma by providing students an academically-rigorous educational program preparing them for their post-secondary education. Overall, the area surrounding our school is of lower socio-economic status. 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch and 50% are English Language Learners. Most students walk or take public transportation to school.

My Project

Don't let the Corona Virus put an end to interesting and engaging learning. Just because learning looks different, doesn't mean it has to be boring. Donating to this project will allow students to be interested and engaged in the learning process. Whether students are in person or online, having the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard will allow for amazing creativity and engaging learning. Schools are terribly unprepared for digital learning and what money they do have is being spent on physical protection from disease. We already have the iPad Air, so these accessories will allow for students to dynamically present and interact in a way that would otherwise be impossible. These items will turn this iPad into a fully fledged multimedia powerhouse allowing students to digitally project annotations, create work that is graphically appealing, as well as allow for easier video and picture editing. Furthermore, the entire class will now be able to see what students are doing both in person and online! Additionally, these digital items are easily cleaned between use. By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to focus on what really matters, learning. Finally, I teach in the Forensic Police and Fire Academy. This project will help a broad spectrum of students across multiple subjects such as English, Science, History as well as Forensics, Police, Fire, and EMT.
