My students need these variety of calculators. Our general education students also need to use a calculator from time to time and our current supply is old and "dying" by the day it seems.
I am currently co-teaching with Mrs. B in a fifth grade classroom. We are in a rural district with limited resources. We have a small classroom budget due to these limited resources. There are 36 students in our classroom and eleven of those are on my special education caseload. Mrs.B and I are working hard to do an inclusion set-up, where this allows the special education students to stay in the classroom. This is helping these eleven students to learn as much as they can with their peers, socialize together, and be involved with all of the general education instruction. Our goal is to make all of the children in our classroom feel successful and be a part of our small community.
Due to the high number of students in a classroom, individual special needs, and individual basic needs, we are constantly looking for ways to keep the students engaged in the management of the classroom.
I would like to request standing desks to add to our classroom culture. We already have some donated flexible seating but are looking for standing desks to help some of our students "burn off" some excess energy. I have seen some success.
My Project
We have a very limited classroom budget and at the beginning of the year, we had enough basic calculators for the entire class. They were purchased several years ago and are "dying" off it seems daily. We have made huge strides in our math scores and learning this year. We are in desperate need of some new fresh calculators to continue our success and hard work in math. My special education students have different needs and the other calculators that I have requested will GREATLY assist these students in their learning life skills in math. Sometimes a regular calculator doesn't help them with real life math and especially when it comes to money. The students are really working hard this year and have overall made great strides in math. We would like your support to continue this successful learning.
