Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love that my students come to see me every day, some take breaks, some just need a hug, and others are looking for a little word of encouragement. Little do they know that each day they make my heart a little fuller, always giving me more than I give them. Today, I am working to connect to these students virtually, so they know that during these weeks, I am still here supporting them.
My Project
Recent school closures as a result of COVID-19 unearthed a gap in our school's ability to provide equal access to distance learning technologies for every student. In response to our school closing, EECS has been diligently working to transition to a distance learning curriculum in both English and Spanish. This transition has put many students at risk of falling behind academically and social-emotionally. Homeschooling is putting increasing pressure on families, making distance learning a major challenge to setting students on a path to higher education and resilient futures. Providing students with school-issued Chromebooks will facilitate independent learning, reduce pressure on families, and ensure our students continue on their path to success.
Your support will mitigate the risks for our most vulnerable students, prioritizing those who have been identified as higher risk such as our students in temporary living situations and foster care.
