My Students
This is a Dual Language classroom In Red Hook Brooklyn, NY. We teach children from diverse cultural backgrounds, we celebrate all cultures. We enjoy reading about our different backgrounds, customs and we often share our different meals. We learn through non-fiction literature about animals and the world around us. We study penguins, polar bears, pigs,butterflies, caterpillars, dinosaurs and many others.
The children learn through play in different areas such as drama center, blocks and construction area, train stations, Lego building and floor puzzles. We maintain a safe, healthy, loving environment where children thrive. We service children from the biggest inner-city housing complex in New York as well as surrounding neighborhoods. We want to offer the best classroom experience to all children regardless of socioeconomic or cultural backgrounds.
My Project
My project will empower our children to learn, thrive and succeed in their very first school experience. We pride our selves in making sure every student who enters our classroom has a voice, feels valued, nurtured and loved.
We offer children a warm, rich setting with lots of engaging activities, fascinating books as well as a rich vocabulary both in English and Spanish. Our children will continue to be in a Dual Language class until the fifth grade and then will go to a Dual Language Junior High School. We are preparing the leaders of tomorrow one year at a time Bilingual, Bi literate and Bicultural.
We will use the big carpet to expand our block area the children can build, read books on buildings from around the world. We have soft and hard blocks, block citizens from the world to teach acceptance and multiculturalism. The tools will be a great addition to the building process. On alternate days this carpet will serve as gigantic, car, trucks, carriticos( Spanish for tiny little cars)garage equipt with appropriate books. These activities foster creativity and problem solving while creating a community of cooperative learners.
