Our school rests in the valley of the Smoky Mountains, and is a Title I school with most of the student body being on free and reduced lunches. I get to teach approximately 50 of them each day. My students are extremely hard working, full of energy, are eager to learn and accept any challenge that is thrown at them. They need to be given materials and opportunities that will allow them to explore new concepts and solve real world situations.
My Project
Everyday my 4th graders are given differentiated instruction in a small group setting. This gives each student the chance to learn at their own level and pace. It is also a time to fill in the gaps that they need to be able to learn on their grade level. The higher level students use this time to challenge their thinking and enrich their learning.
Small group instruction has become essential to reach every students' learning style and promotes learning on every level.
Having a table that encourages student learning in creative ways will genuinely excite my students for their small group time.
