This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
To feel in control is to feel empowered; to feel empowered is a launch to learning. I grew up getting everything I needed, but these kiddos are growing up seeing their needs in a very different light. It is my goal to give them all I can as their math teacher and inspire them to aspire to greatness.
My students live in the urban core, have the usual deficiencies in their day to day provisions as many urban area students.
They are overcrowded at school, struggle to feel safe, and think of themselves as not amounting to anything. These students need to know they are important, just as the kids in suburbs are important.
My Project
With these white board supplies my students will be able to have easily accessible "scratch paper", give me immediate feedback of their understanding in the math classroom, and feel enabled to explore their knowledge through writing. I know that my students love coming up to the board and doing their work; however, I cannot accommodate all of them at the board at one time and would like to give them more opportunities to do the things that get them excited about math class.
Most my students come to school without supplies and I provide (out of my own pocket) paper and pencils, but can't afford it at the rate they use them.
I found some white boards, now need the pens and erasers.
