Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach math in a K-8 school where many students are economically disadvantaged. I truly believe that anyone regardless of income has the right to a high quality education. I am there for them. All 27 of them. Just like me, my students want to be challenged and engaged with hands-on learning. They enjoy learning new things and working together to solve a complex word problem. Most importantly, they never give despite the challenges they face inside or outside the classroom.
My Project
The donations to this project will help my 27 students increase their ability to see a math question, then use their critical thinking and problem solving skills to answer the question. I don’t just want them writing the answers. I need to see their work. On the opposite side of seeing a math problem, I do mental math each week. Students are giving a problem orally and can only write the answers. These dry erase markers will demonstrate how well they listen and solve a problem mentally. Along with dry erase markers, I’m asking for felt to be used as erasers on their white boards. I will cut them into individual pieces. We are starting multiplication next week and then division. I already have the small white boards, which were given by another teacher. I want them excited and ready to learn with these markers.
