Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I like to refer to my students as my awesome fourth graders. They come to me with a wide range of backgrounds, goals, and abilities. At our school, most of the students are Hispanic/Latino or African American. It is my goal to prepare them to be successful in school as well as out in their communities.

When it comes to my students, there are pieces of demographic data that concern me and make me want to provide them with more resources.

According to the 2010 census, 44% of Fresno students live in poverty. I know that this can have a significant impact on our students' learning, especially when certain resources aren't readily available to them on a daily basis.

This year, my incoming students have a great need for reading intervention and enrichment. I hope that with your help, I'm able to provide them with the resources they need to improve in all academic areas.

My Project

The items I have selected for my students are the ones they use daily, which are dry erase markers and paper. Now that we are at the start of a new year and the beginning of a new school quarter it is time to stock up on these items.

Dry erase markers and paper are used every day in our class.

My students use dry erase markers for their daily math fact fluency practice. They write on top of a sheet protector to go over the basic math facts they are reviewing. They also use the dry erase markers whenever we do review for various content areas where we want to conserve paper. My students enjoy using the dry erase markers, especially for math practice.

The other item I have selected is lined paper, which the students use when going through the writing process and planning out their multi-paragraph articles.
