Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school in Frederick, MD servicing pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students with a variety of backgrounds. Eighty-seven percent of our students receive free or reduced-price meals. More than 50% of the students attending our school are current or former English learners.
More than 50% of our students are English learners with limited English language skills that affect their ability to participate successfully in education programs and achieve high academic standards.
Most of them come from low-income families and have limited access to books, resources, technology, help with homework, and gaining English proficiency. It is the teachers' responsibility to ensure that all students have equal access to a quality education that enables them to progress academically while learning English.
My Project
Dry erase boards make learning visible during distance learning. They are effective in every subject taught in school and a great way to give and receive feedback. My students will use them with interactive math problems, writing sessions, language activities, brainstorming sessions and classroom discussions. They encourage participation and students response. As a teacher, I routinely use them to motivate disinterested and shy students and reward and recognize the efforts of enthusiastic students. They are low maintenance and I want all my students to have one to show their learning and receive feedback.
