Drums: Slip and Slide No More! Classroom Basics for Music!
Help me give my students the tubano, boomwhackers and accessories they need to succeed in music class, especially my special needs students who are so delighted every time experience playing instruments!
I teach some of the best students in the school! In fact, I teach all of the students in my school. They are unique and witty, and they tell me all the time how much they love music! We are in a low income, high poverty area, but their attitudes are first rate!
My 756 students in K4, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Special Needs and Montessori classes attend our Title I, rural, public school and are very excited about our musical ensemble curriculum.
They are very energetic, creative, and eager to experience everything I can offer them in music. They get to move, sing, clap, dance, and play music. They are up, moving, singing, playing instruments, and experiencing music every possible moment. My goal is to offer them every possible musical experience, and hands-on experiences are essential.
My Project
My students come in ready to play and don't want to leave when time is over! Unfortunately, many have to sit by and wait while the others play. Some of my other student struggle with fine motor skills which make playing and holding on to some instruments difficult. By adding a few more instruments and accessories, we can get an instrument in every child's hand every single time they come. Learning is so much more meaningful when they can actively participate through touch the entire lesson. These instruments in particular will also help my students to develop a feel for learning authentic, multi-cultural rhythms. The tubano can create an incredible sound. The boomwhackers provide an alternative sound for students to create melodies on that compliment our percussion performances, and are very manageable for students with difficulty holding some of the smaller pieces. The rhythm instruments and the adaptable stabilizers are perfect to help all students have success with playing instruments. Hand-in-hand, these instruments will engage the students and increase their musical abilities!
