Our students are diverse coming from many different countries. We have students of all races. We are a huge melting pot of differences! Our student are highly motivated for success. Many of them challenge themselves academically, taking very rigorous classes. However, sometimes the stress of keeping up with such difficult classes and living up to the expectations of family and friends is a challenge. They would benefit from an outlet, especially a creative, musical one.
DRUMBEAT members will participate in a small counseling group helping students build resiliency skills though rhythm.
Resiliency skills include developing self awareness and confidence, practicing new behaviors, understanding common thoughts and feelings as well as gain support from others who are experiencing similar situations.
My Project
Research done on the DRUMBEAT group indicates that there is a huge reduction in discipline incidents and an increase in school attendance.

-Demonstrate perseverance to achieve long and short term goals
-Demonstrate ability to overcome barriers to learning
- Identify long and short-term academic, career and social/emotional goals
-Demonstrate effective coping skills when faced with a problem
-Increase self-confidence in ability to succeed
It is my hope that I can eliminate some of the stress and emotional issues that we often forget that children deal with on a day to day basis.
