This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school in New Haven, Connecticut. Our school is one of the schools close to downtown, and we service New Haven children as well as children from other districts since we are a magnet school. Ninety percent of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. They are some of the hardest working students I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I am experiencing an explosion of interest in the 5th and 6th grades because my students are encouraging their friends to join. It is a great problem to have! Our students need help to stay engaged in the classroom and our program. With supplies we can give students confidence to participate beyond the first year.
My Project
We're all about that bass! Marching Bass that is! I am asking for a marching bass drum for our baby marching band. This is my third year at this school, and I am hoping to build on the success we've in the past few years with our new drum line. Our baby drum line excited my students so much. It's all the rage at my school now!
As of right now there is not enough instruments to fill out our bass line.
This year and last year we had to borrow from other schools and now it's time to get drums for our own program! Because of our drum line, my students were super excited to perform for their peers, which in turn motivated everyone to go do our St. Patricks day parade!
