My Students

My classroom is the music room where you will find us singing, dancing, and playing. In a school full of many diverse cultures, the music room is one of the places where everyone is learning the same language. To reach the population of my school I aim to provide as dynamic instruction as possible from singing games, instruments, and dances.

Many of my students itch to get to play a drum of any kind; I want to get these students drumming to promote their music skills and keep interest levels high!

My Project

The ability to keep a beat and have rhythm have been associated with higher literacy skills and better fluency. My aim is to increase beat and rhythmic competency through the use of drums in the music classroom.

The students will be using the tubanos to improve beat competency in order to also improve reading fluency and literacy.

My students always get excited when we use the "big" drums in the music classroom; unfortunately we do no have enough of these kinds of drums for every all students. The drums will be used throughout the year to provide dynamic instruction in music and to supplement skills in other classroom subjects. The aim is create an exciting environment in the music classroom through the use of these tubanos.
