This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This year I would like to start a drum line for my pep band. I currently have a set of marching tenor drums with no leg rests or mallets. Everyone has heard the saying "the right tool for the right job", and "you are only as good as your tools."

My classes consist of eager sixth, seventh and eighth grade students ready to explore the world of music.

They are excited about the opportunity to begin the new pep band ensemble. My school is a title one school with a population of approximately 900 students.

My Project

With your kind contributions, my percussion students will have the opportunity to explore the art of playing tenor drum while standing and marching. Currently, the drums are played sitting in chairs and the students are not allowed any mobility while playing them. They are also being played with the butt of snare drum sticks which will eventually damage the drum heads. Using the proper mallets and leg rests will provide a more enjoyable and enriching experience for the students.

Outfitting our drum line with the tenor drum leg rests will give the percussion students a greater sense of pride within their section.

For the last couple of years, the instruments have remained in the cases due to the fact that we didn't have all of the accessories needed to play them. The students will be positively enriched by your contribution to our program.
