Help me give my students new multicultural drums to reinforce rhythm activities and be able to participate in a drumming circle.
These drums expose our students to different cultures due to their unusual shapes and materials.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a very diverse group of students. I teach students with disabilities, including Autism, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Intellectual disabilities. The population consists of 50% general education and 50% special education. The school is a Title One school with 85% receiving free lunch. I direct the Show Choir ensemble. I also direct culminating programs for the holidays which include all kindergarten to 5th grades.
My students love to play musical instruments.
I incorporate various learning practices to help my students read music. It is amazing to watch their musical growth throughout the years that I get to teach them. It would surprise you at how even my students with disabilities learn how to read music. They use various percussion instruments to learn to play rhythms. Third through fifth graders play the recorders by following music notation.
All students love to play the drums. I would love to start a drum circle but I don't have enough drums to go around. Students do learn to share the few bongos that we have. Drums used by different cultures would also help teach about the music of other countries. For example, conga and djembe. Students look forward to music time.
My Project
Providing my students with new drums will ignite their interest in the percussion section of orchestras, perhaps sparking a child to take up that instrument in the future.
New drums from different musical genres will allow students to enhance their rhythmic skills in Music Class and beyond.
Using new drums in class will invigorate my student's learning during their time in elementary. We have not been able to purchase new instruments for our classroom since I arrived at this school eight years ago. Tired and broken instruments need to be retired and new one added to replace the old ones.
