My Students

Music is universal! Everyone can appreciate it, everyone can participate. Our students are brilliant musicians with bright futures. Many of them have affiliations to the military and have sacrificed time with their parents so they can serve our country. Many of them are economically disadvantaged as well. Currently, more than half of our students have music delivered from a cart and do not have access to musical instruments during their lessons. They deserve to make music on quality instruments! Our music teachers serve two autistic classes, two multi-age, differently-gifted classes and almost 1000 regular education students. Our school is growing exponentially because our staff is caring and loving and the adjacent military base is booming!

My Project

We have a very large school and two music teachers on a cart. We simply don't have enough instruments for everyone to use them. I love these drums because they are large enough for more than one child to play at once (three can use each one if you do it just right) and two of them would allow six kids to play at once. Drumming is a wonderful way for students to internalize rhythm and can be very cathartic. The old quote, "If you've got a problem, take it out on a drum!" is fun, but it is also true!! Students who play instruments and learn to read rhythms also learn to read more readily. I believe having these two drums will spur interest in some of my students who may be more reserved.
