My students need a drum set for many different things such as, marching band, concert band, starting a new jazz band, and many other performing ensembles!
Students in the music program at THS come from many different backgrounds. Some joined band because they have a genuine interest in music, while others joined to be with a friend but ended up having music become a big interest in their life.
With the limited amount of funding in this area, it is hard to find enough equipment to give these students the best music education experience possible.
As the new year comes, my students have asked to do more in our local community and the surrounding areas. It warms my heart to hear that my students want to reach out and become more involved in aspects that other music programs are a part of. As their love for music and their community continue to grow, the equipment needs to grow as well!
My Project
My students have asked if our band could be more involved in the community and local areas. With this being said, they want to start performing at marching band competitions and other festivals and events. But with the limited amount of students and equipment, finding instruments to cover each part to create a full ensemble is tricky. Adding a drum set would allow for one percussionist to cover a multitude of parts at once.
Having this drum set in the music classroom also opens up to a world of other ensembles that can benefit from it.
The students are wanting to start a jazz band and other small ensembles that would use this drum set as a key part in their performances.
With the addition of this drum set, my hope is that each student can have a well rounded musical education and find interests they may never have known before!
