My Students

My classroom is a place where students get to be creative and expressive through singing, playing, and movement. It's one of the few times during the week where they get to "let go" and be themselves.

A vast majority of our student population receives free or reduced breakfast and lunch.

The district is in a mid to high poverty area.

Although my district gives its fair share of funds to music, they just can't provide everything my students need to thrive in the classroom. I am always looking for opportunities to give them the quality materials and instruments they deserve.

My Project

Our marching band is fortunate to be able to travel to all of our home and away football games. It gives us many performance opportunities during the year, and it also means dealing with a lot of equipment. We currently have two 52" drum major podiums. These work wonderfully and look very nice at our games. However, they are very bulky and difficult to move from one venue to the other. Our football field is a mile away from the school, so when we have an away game, we have to get the podiums from our home stadium up to the school for an away game.

We need 2 more podiums to take with us to away games.

Having smaller podiums will allow us to use the big ones at our home games (and keep them at the stadium), and take the smaller ones with us to an away game. They will also greatly reduce the amount of equipment we have to bring into an away stadium with us when we perform.
