My Students

“If you can talk you can sing, if you can walk you can dance.” A wonderful Zimbabwean proverb that I love sharing with my students every day. With an active hands-on curriculum we bring this proverb to life.

As an elementary music teacher, I have the privilege of sharing music with every student in our school.

Seeing my students grow as people and musicians from Pre-K to 5th grade is truly a joy. All are welcome in the music room where we sing, play instruments, move, and make music together.

My Project

Drums will expand and enrich our music curriculum with the exciting rhythms of the world, right in our students' hands. In our music room we actively make music together with our voices, instruments, and movement. We will use these drums for African drum circles, drum and instrument ensembles, and to explore the connections of language and natural speech rhythms to music, as students write and create their own music.

In Africa, music and drumming are not just a medium for creative performance, but they serve as a stage for teaching ethics, life skills, societal roles, and community bonds.

With this program our students will not only be learning to play exciting new music, but they will be learning discipline, respect, and unity through music. Donating to this project will provide 600 students with the gift of music through exciting hands-on methods.
